„Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always want to be.“
Leonardo da Vinci obviously had not experienced seaplane flying or he would have added: and you will judge all lakes and other open waters if your plane could land there and take off again…
After many years of flying „regular“ airplanes I finally discovered the fun and challenge of flying seaplanes. First a German seaplane rating on small and winding river Mosel (with Norbert Klippel) was accomplished and then the US rating followed at the also well known and most famous school in the USA at Jack Brown‘s Seaplane Base.
While in other countries like Canada seaplanes are part of the daily transportation life (Vancouver), in again other countries they are at least part of regular aviation life. In Germany so far seaplanes seem to be nearly banned.
Since pure wishing and hoping does not lead anywhere, it was easy to find mind souls who also like the idea of promoting this awesome kind of flying in Germany. Day by day more and more pilots and non flying people are joining us in supporting this idea.
As some of you – who have been part of our distribution list since the beginning – know, we aready had attempts to make this event happen in 2009. That it would not be a piece of cake was clear from the beginning. And that is exactly why we fly seaplanes and do not find our happiness as a couch potatoe.
Norbert Klippel provided the basis for the first German Seaplane Day. It was a FlyIn for seaplane friends and operators. Also (not yet seaplane flying) pilots and people who just wanted to know what this is all about joined us at this special event.
The idea behind the German Seaplane Day is to promote the idea of seaplane flying especially in (Central) Europe. Anybody who thinks he can and would like to contribute to this idea and this event is encouraged to particpate in the European Seaplane FORUM or to contact us.
