Our efforts to enhance seaplane flying went European in 2010: the second German Seaplane Day was held from 1. - 3. October 2010 at Lake Como.

The second GSD has safely taken place: No accident whatsoever and lots of fun for the participants. Also many of the attending people got to fly, thanks to the kind pilots and owners of the arriving planes and the helpful instructors of Aero Club Como. See the Forum for more information about the event.

Jointly with the world's oldest continuously operating training facility for seaplane pilots, Aero Club Como, participants met and flew together the first weekend in October.

Italy‘s seaplane heritage dates back to the earliest flights of water based aircraft. In 1913 the first seaplanes flew from Lake Como, taking part in a European seaplane competition. Aero Club Como was founded on 6th April 1930. Now the flight school logs around 3,500 hours of water flying each year.

Cesare Baj, president of the club, wrote one of the standard books for seaplane pilots “Seaplane Operations – Basic and Advanced Techniques for Floatplanes, Amphibians and Flying Boats from around the World”. Float planes of Aero Club Como include: Cessna 172, Cessna 172 XP, Piper PA 18, Cessna 305 C, Cessna 206, Lake LA4-200 EP. Aero Club Como is the oldest best known seaplane base in Europe – there is hardly a European seaplane rated pilot who has not been there and flown at least once.

In August German pilot Stefan Mommertz "checked out" the beautiful GSD 2010 location. He crossed the Alps with his seaplane (Scout) flying to Aero Club Como.
